since i'm all light sensitive to the morning sun and shit and since i set my alarm this morning to wake up at 8 (on a sunday!!! who does that?) on the count that my neighbour (a professional window guy) is gonna change my bedroom window, i figured i have some time to post before i fall aslep again.

i was checking my iphone installer for the latest updates on what apps are available on my phone. if you're wondering what this entails, think widgets or even programs, games and toys. i came across this new media toy called 'beatphone'; a drum machine for your iphone. it's so rad.

if you can appreciate the beat kings of today's hip hop and even yesteryear's for that matter, who rocked out on the mpc and spc's, and you wanna emulate them during your lunch break or while waiting for public transportation to come get you, then as my cousins in the bay area would say, "you'll have a hella good time" on this. being that i had nothing to do last night, i must've killed the hour between 2 and 3 am fucking with this.

now i can make beats wherever i go....in the toilet, at the mall or even on the subway for that 'urban' feel.

m.m. reprise: podrunner
now i dunno if my mom needs something rocking her shuffle at 150 bpm, but i do.
i used to be a big fan of electronic music but i've recently been heavily romanticizing with jazz and hip hop. go figure.

when i workout though, i've been cross-listening to different types of music. metal...punk...funk...it all helps. just the other day however, i discovered podrunner.

podrunner is a glorious resource that people who train to a beat know all about.
it recently reached #2 on the itunes top 100 podcasts.
funny, i just heard about it myself (thanks google).

anyhow, i just loaded my shuffle with a podrunner episode called, "funkenwalken".
i was pretty skeptical at first but trust, when you're on the treadmill or on the track or even pushing around those weights, music makes all the difference.

TRAIN HARD.
it's motivation. inspiration. dedication. eternal damn nation. masturbation (??).

doin' the green shuffle
(a family affair)
so mom dukes bought an ipod shuffle the other day. we usually go take a walk together after dinner on the weekends or even to the corner store. it's good therapy for the soul and her arthritic knee. but when she's alone and mall-walking before her fitness class on the daily, it can get pretty repetitive.

to combat the boredom, i suggested she get an mp3 player. of course, she chose the shuffle...a green shuffle, at that!
yea...my mom's pretty cool.

mac is crack. and now it's a family affair.
up next...shall it be macmini or imac as the choice cut desktop for the 'rents?

rate well: lacie porsche 500G external HD
i didn't think i'd get here this fast, but prior to yesterday, my iBook was down to it's last 6 gigs of space. considering that i rarely use bit torrent for my download uses, my computer filled up pretty fast. i guess that can be accredited to all the pictures i've taken over the years.

actually, i just never got around to backing up my data.

so as i mentioned previously, i was driving to the store under the hot august sun. thankfully i arrived at tiger direct before any accidents had time to happen. i've been researching and hunting for a while, but i finally came to my conclusive mindset and purchased lacie's porsche. although not listed on their website, mine is the 500 G version.

now that's a lot of damn space anyone knows that. but for a guy who had a desktop PC with only 12G to begin with and later a jump to 40G on this ibook, a jump to 500G seems like infinity.

on their website, tigerdirect.ca describes the porsche as being able to contain "212 two-hr dvd movies", "186,500 digital photos", and get this - "440 days of around-the-clock MP3 audio". that's a wonderful thing!!

the price for this 500 gig'er?....a gatecrashing $145 CAD!

i'm currently in the process of organizing and moving my mp3s off this computer HD to the lacie and i have to say - it works with ease. the mac easily recognized it and the porsche itself came fresh out the box, quiet like a new born baby. no humming or clicking or spinning noises. it's mac-patible and stackable. what more could i ask for? right..the design -- it's clean in design; silver for that futuristic feel.

i originally wanted the lego brick but it's ok. i think i got my money's worth with this one.
i'm a real working man now, i gotta budget my bucks; you know -- dollar stores, holes in socks and trail mix.
cheap stuff.

lacie's porsche 500G is a definite must-have for all your porn and/or music and/or photography and/or document needs.
get one today. tell'em jay sent you.

masterpice mondays: testing the iphone
when you're on top, everyone wants to test you. take athletic champions for instance, whether you're a tennis player, basketballer, boxer, mma'er or whatever, everyone wants a piece of you on when you're on top.

the same can be said for apple. last week the iphone was released in the U.S. and it didn't just make a ripple in the pond, it caused a damn tsunami! i mean so what?..the phone is only 5 years ahead of the whole mobile game and so what?...the iphone is only gonna be as iconic in the mobile world as the ipod is in the mp3 world. big deal.

it's no secret that the iphone is, and for a while, will be put under the examining microscope of haters awaiting it's demise. that's natural. people knock what they can't have or understand. fair enough.

don't try and understand why apple is so good at what they do. accept it and move on.

in today's return of masterpiece mondays, i present no other than PC world magazine's video test of the iphone. ha. a PC test of an apple product.

the video presents a real life simulation of what your iphone might go through in your daily jaunting. the end result: even PC world shows that yes, the iphone isn't fine china - it's durable too! don't deny it.

bringing out the crowds
so the iphone was released today...6pm across the americas. although it doesn't come out in canada for a while, im kinda of glad. for one, it'll give me a few months or weeks to catch any glitches the first batch might have and two, i can actually save up for one in the meantime. but who knows...america is just RIGHT THERE. maybe i can take a little stroll over the border and cop one. i DO need a phone nowadays.

hmmmmm....??????

in the meanwhile, believe it or not, i was in those american lines today, waiting for the iphone...i was there, i swear.

fresh (what's next?): the brick
put up your hand if you played with lego when you were younger. shoot, put up your hand if you still find yourself playing with those colorful bricks or if you basically spend a good 30 mintues at toys'r'us checking out the new stock from the building block giant.

as i slowly run out of space on my ibook i've been on the hunt for an external hard drive. but i ask...why buy just any external HD? cop "the brick" by lacie.

fresh (what's next?): the iLike community
with so many network community-sites these days, who really needs real-life friends? who wants to hang out with friends in-person?
really.

i'm clowning y'all!!!!!

but just in case you didn't get your fill with asianavenue back in the days, friendster (slowly becoming today's asianavenue) or the current powerhouses of myspace and facebook, then you might wanna peep iLike.

you might be wondering, "why jay? what the F*ck are you trying to pull here? why waste another precious minute browsing the profiles of friends and news feeds or looking at pictures (especially those half-naked ones of vain people where i feel compelled to touch myself once looking at?) why, jay? why?!!"

well i'll tell you why! iLike has the goods, that's why. iLike is different from the above social networks because it plays the role of big brother; iLike is watching you. but of course, all the peeping tomishness is for a good reason and in good fun. the iLike community connects others with similar music that you like.

some features include:
  • seeing which members share similar musical tastes with you (and hence, networking for filesharing, chatting, dating or sex'ing)
  • an iTunes sidebar where you can link out to play perverted voyeur on what your "friends" are listening to and also "recommended artists" similar to whatever tunes are currently playing
  • exposure to new and upcoming artists or artists you've never heard of (and probably would've never heard of in your life)

    keep in mind that you'll need iTunes so iLike can watch you. the site's currently in beta with future plans to connect to your windows media player if you swing that way.

    if you've hung around me then you know that i often throw quotations around just as much as i breathe. for me, it's second nature and self-amusing. that quote is so important not just for jay-z but for our world; our ever-so-great western piece of turf entrenched in capitalism.

    reports conducted by australia's commonwealth bank are looking closely at the ipod nano as a measure of international currencies.

    imagine buying a shirt and asking "excuse me, how many nano's is this shirt worth?" or closing your mortgage with the bank..."thank you, mr. de los Reyes, we've recieved your last installment of nanos and are glad to announce the closing of your mortgage". then there are sundays at the flea market while haggling with the shopkeeper: "c'mon?!! 2 nanos for 30 dozen pairs of tube socks?..how about 1 nano. deal?".

    that's exactly the case in australia - or at least how they've chosen to study how overrated or underrated a nation's currency is. think about it - the nano is iconic and readily available across the world; since this is the case, you would think that apple nanos would be one price across the board, right?

    dream on.
    you're all placebo readers; my readers and i know you're smarter than that.

    nanos cost 328 bucks in brazil suggesting that brazil's currency is overvalued while here in canada, you can cop a nano for the all time lowest international price of $172!!! that's cheaper than what i saw at the bargain basement of sweden's wal-mart a couple weeks ago. they're buggin'.

    special? of course it is...

    so there was another mac show. here's what came about:

    i'm not a celly user. shoot, my brother handed me down his mobile a few years back when he got his new engineering job and supposedly needed to be all decked out and cool with his new flip phone. against my wishes, i reaped the benefits and lived out the remaining year of his 3 year contract.

    that's the extent of my relationship with a mobile.
    from my point of view, if you need to reach me, you'll find a way to reach me. trust....

    that's about to change, i think. actually, i know.
    apple came out today with the new iphone.
    talk. listen. watch. surf. touch screen. do whatever. besides...it's an apple.

    nuff said.

    i just copped itunes 7, and although im not impressed with its lag time, i am impressed with it's new features (album covers, movie & t.v. purchase options etc.).
    it's been a year since i bought this ibook and i'm just beginning to learn the finer points of itunes and its features. one standout feature i've recently discovered is how to create a smart playlist.

    if you love music and wanna customize your own based on parameters such as: most played, specific title words/themes etc, time, or even bpm (good for workouts or chilling out), then utilize that smart playlist feature.

    i work at mexx. i work at mexx in a really exclusive mall for stuck up rich people who have no sense of how the world revolves.

    but that's besides the fact.

    yesterday at sherway gardens, the new apple store opened up. i've known about their grand opening for about two weeks now. the thing is, i had to open our store; on a saturday morning; at 830am; sleepy. as my manager and i made the walk to the bank to make our store's deposit we passed by the apple store. you could here it down the hall and around the corner. there were velvet ropes in the hallway directing line traffic into the store. knowing that apple gives a free t-shirt to it's first 1000 customers on grand opening day, i had to at least line up. i went into the line. i was so surprised. i thought for one minute that nobody else knew about the store's opening. that's when the security guard tapped me on my shoulder and said "the line starts over there."

    that's when i looked back to the first velvet rope around the other corner. shit.

    but that's ok because im persistent. i at least went to check out how long that line was. as i passed by, some joker screamed his wise crack "nice try, buddy", at me. stupid fucker (i can't hate though, i would've said the same thing). the line went out of the building and around the corner of the wall, outside and in the rain. forget that. i love apple but not that much. besides...i justify not lining up with the old "i have to work excuse". *snicker*
    work. retail. with a degree. overrated.

    ha.

    you should really check out an apple store opening if you can, though. they let you go in - single file. all the employees are lined up and down the aisle of the store - clapping and screaming and cheering you on. all in single file, i can't stress that enough. that's how every store should open up. now would opening up everyday like that be too much to ask?

    an apple store beside the new nike store. this is the beginning of the end of me.

    WWDC
    from august 7th (my niece's birthday - WOOT!) to the 11th, apple is having their WWDC; slang talk for world wide developer's conference. do i really need to explain what they do here? aside from their annual shows in the fall, where they showcase their new product releases, the WWDC is an international forum that does the same thing just on a more grand scale. here, developer's discuss what's currently being done and what could be done. it's very awe-inspiring. whatever the case, keep your eyes peeled on the apple homepage for new technologies and dare i mention...products *gasp*.

    mighty mouse goes wireless
    last year around the same time, apple released their mighty mouse - a mouse with a track ball and multiple varying clicking options. i think it's pretty dope but for the apple notebook user, having a wired mouse is good but not great. wireless is supreme supreme. this is why when march of last year came around and my co-workers bought me an apple wireless mouse, i flipped out. it's bluetooth, ergonomically nice, durable, aesthetically pleasing and of course..it's an apple. the thing is my best friend next to my dog (but don't let her know that). recently, apple released a wireless mighty mouse! can you dig that? oh well, if i buy that, i'll just have to get another apple computer to accessorize it with; no biggie, right?

    new apple store in nyc. underground - meaning it's a subterrain location. glass-cased apple symbol above ground to stop you in your tracks. one more thing...open 24 hours a day...!???!!

    who would go to an apple store at 3am?

    you'd be surprised..and if i were in the big apple, i'd be checkin' out the apple (store). har har. no joke.

    sooner or later i hate to think that apple's popularity will falter. i can see all the pc users awaiting that moment. i'm just glad mr. jobs and his posse are capitalizing on their iconic success while it lasts. their marketing schemes, product designs and of course, product performances are stellar. in the meantime, my readers, you shall bask in apple's glory. suckaz.
