for 2009
after coming back from the pacquiao vs. de la hoya weekend in vegas (go manny!), i was reminded that i have to leave here - whether for a short period or for good. i think over the last two years, i started losing track of my goal to one day re-locate my butt overseas in se asia, whether that be in thailand or malayasia and whether that be for months at a time, i had that on my agenda of things to do within a 7 year period. two years have passed since then and i've been stuck in monotony since. i think it was the snow that i flew back to here and in buffalo, upon arrival from vegas. anyhow, for 2009, i've decided to set some goals:
  • pay off my debts
  • put aside roughly $150/month for an 8 month period (deadline: september 2009) in order to travel and back somewhere...anywhere.
  • make some fucking moves towards being my own boss and being independent, whether that be living on my own, making business moves on my own or any other _______, ending with "on my own".

it's part of my growth that i'm losing track of. writing these down is the first step. wish me luck.
btw, how the hell is my audience? drop me a line to show that you still come by. sorry for the piss-port attempts or lack thereof in terms of updating.

    rio
do i really want to check out brazil?
i know this is a movie, but a lot of the time, art reflects life and vice versa.

it could get dangerous...but hell yea, i wanna check out brazil.

and now that you've just had your brain raped by that scene, let's redeem brazil and listen to the sweet sounds of rosalia de souza:

have you started saving for your wedding yet?
a quick thought that comes in and out of my mind is if i've really made any effort to start saving for things of the future that are pretty damn important in the grand scheme of things. one of these being a wedding.

i'm currently a bachelor but is it crazy to even think about that? face it, weddings cost a ton and i hate to think about owing a stupid ass bank that same ton of money. eventhough i'm single, i guess i should start saving for that.

just a thought that's been appearing in and out of my mind lately.
i really need to get back into posting on here. it's good for the brain as much as the soul.

    keeping tabs
it seems like forever since i've posted on here. but i'm not about to let my creative genius and it's outlet start slipping. i've just been so busy.

    there's a phrase i despise, "i've been so busy".

clients say it to me and here i am saying it to you. time can be made if you really want to do something so that's really no excuse. but to give you a picture of what's been on my plate, here it goes:

  • daily i wake up at 5am
to walk my dog at the crack of dawn. my dad has been away for 4 weeks now and he's not coming back until early to mid june. he's been away visiting the motherland so i've been taking up duties (that i should be doing anyhow) for the care and walking of my dog.

  • i've been sick this past week
this is pretty self-explanatory. i'm recovering just now and i'm still not 100%; it's been 3 days now. geez. it all started at the outdoor kanye west concert last week where it was rainy...and cold...and rainy. go figure.

  • i've been preparing for my exam this upcoming weekend
i'm striving to be a kettlebell coach. one of the very few kettlebell coaches in southern ontario, let alone canada in general. hopefully i can get this designation. i recently recieved an email by the instructor that stated we should take it easy this week in our personal workouts because the weekend will be both outdoors and exhausting. finally, a certification that i'll have to earn both mentally and physically. i can't wait.

that's all for now. enjoy the clip above of me messing around with the kettlebell in my backyard. wish a brother luck.

    i need a fix
we just dropped my dad off to the airport a couple of hours ago. i tell you, that place makes me itch out of control. just looking at the pixalated departure board gives me make-believe flashes into actually going to some of these destinations.

i'm once again plotting a destination for this fall. i need a break and a getaway. shoot, gatdamn.
    stay tuned.

3 pillars of the north american human condition

the stand-in priest today at church had a sermon on how environments can either nurture or destroy you.
he mentioned the following 3 pillars that are harmful to us as north americans. although this was preached within the confines of a catholic church, my catholic church, i think anyone and everyone, regardless of creed can relate to these:

    materialism
we need objects to make ourselves feel important. from big houses to fast cars to nice clothes, we've ventured into a rut where our self-value is measured in how many and what kind of material goods we have.

    consumerism
we consume. we consume the earth, constantly raping her and destroying all of her resources. we consume too much of our precious foodstock that we deem over-abundant. we consume one another, constantly taking advantage of and one-upping the next he or she just to get ahead in this vicious paper chase.

    rugged individualism
we are driven solely by our personal motives and hedonistic tendencies. we have little or no regard on how our choices will impact others around us. we never gave a shit nor will we ever give a shit. it's all about me. me dammit. all me.

we all do it at some point or another but do we ever realize it?
just some things to think about on this gorgeous sunday afternoon.
    peace.

    an april post
so much has been going on since my last true-to-form post. my apologies. thing have just been so hectic with growth in my client base and business. i guess it makes sense since everyone wants to get fit in time for the summer. i'm also gradually making my shift towards a half-and-half combination part time employee trainer and part time freelance trainer. this june i'll be going for a certification that'll hopefully improve my abilities as a trainer, not to mention get my ass even leaner, not to mention further, add some weapons to training arsenal.

it's for a kettlebell coaching cerfitication. unlike other certifications where you basically pay to get your designation, this one has me writing an exam, instructing a class and most importantly, passing a physical test - a grueling kettlebell circuit. let's hope i get this exclusive certification. there aren't too many kettlebell coaches here in ontario so having a credential like that will make me stick out above and beyond the rest.

if you're not familiar with what a kettlebell is, it's heavy cast iron - something that resembles a cannonball with a handle. yea, it's pretty dangerous but yea, it gets your ass results. if ever interested in trying one out and you're in the cooksville area of southern ontario, drop me a line via comments or email for a free training session and consultation. for now, check out the video above or the links below for what a kettlebell is.

    power to the people!

    still here
this blog isn't dead. i've just been mad busy with work. considering that it'll be a year to the date that i've been a trainer, come this may, i didn't realize that april is a peak month when people decide it's time to get in shape and off their asses. what a difference the sun and warm weather makes not only for the out of shape or weekend warriors, but for me, just the same.

    naked weather is here!

    good friday
on good friday is it ok to say "happy easter" or is it only grounds to do so on the monday?
anyhow, it's good to be filipino on good friday. we ate some fried grouper with a sweet'n'sour sauce that mom dukes made and for dinner it was all about steamed veg, jasmine rice and baked bangus.

thank you, jesus...for more than the obvious.
    happy easter, y'all.

i got my first pair in june and ever since then, i've been hooked. last friday on my birthday, the second pair arrived -- my nike free 7.0s that were customized by me!!!
i did color schems, details and even tagged it with my name.
pretty sweet deal, if you ask me; they were thirty bucks cheaper to customize than if i bought a raw pair in the store.
shall a third pair of the same show be purchased soon? it's the best and most functional training shoe i've ever had on.

    26
since the last time i've posted, i turned 26 years old. aside from being crazy busy with work and other things, nothing else much happend. there was no mass partying or debauchery at some night club.
    been there, done that.

there was no big buffet or drinking at some house party.
    been there, done that, too.

instead, the storm of 2008 hit my block and the rest of southern ontario hard. it kind of put a damper on my plans and reservations at a nice greek restaurant. too bad, because i was in the mood for pork souvlaki (heavy on the tzatziki, please) - i had my whole meal planned out. so i cancelled the reservation for 12, and set up something closer - boston pizza. it wasn't the fanciest of establishments but it was local and easy to get to. thanks to all who came out.
it's not where you go it's, who you're with.

i'll post again soon but for now, i gotta prep plans for clients and grab some lunch.
26 has already started off nicely.

    it's easy
it's easy to not do things sometimes.

southern ontario was just hit with another snow storm, and to be perfectly frank, i've had enough of the snow, but duty is duty and if you don't shovel your driveway, then your car isn't coming out and if you don't shovel the sidewalk and boulevard, then you're breaking a bylaw and beyond that, someone might slip, fall and break their neck in front of your house. not cool

the snow keeps falling but you have to deal with it whether it's 5am, like i did just now or 5pm.

a quote i use to get my ass off my futon and out of my REM sleep goes as follows:
"you only get one chance at life. there are no pause or rewind buttons."

use it yourself, because i don't have any patents or copyrights on it. i just had to clean the driveway because i'm not about to let my dad take on that task himself. he's not about to have cardiac arrest on my driveway like that. no sir.

if that quote doesn't help enough then use 4hero's "bed of roses" feat. jody watley...

    keep it simple
whatever you do in life, k.i.s.s.

    that's:
    keep it simple, stupid.

    the vocab
in writing or speaking, i often see and hear people use a vocabulary that would put webster's dictionary to shame. if you know big words, fine. if you know complex terminology and all that jargon, great. keep it to yourself and keep it simple, just get to the gatdamn point. remember, only people with small minds, have to use big words.

    in food
it's nice to have a fancy meal now and then but what's even better is a simple meal done to perfection. it's hard to find something as simple as a hamburger done really good. you'd need the perfect, moist bun, the meat should be cooked, yet juicy but not overdone and the toppings shouldn't be messy nor overpower the meat or the bun. far too often, people try and innovate things that are already good and that already work just fine. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    in appearance
less is more. an accessory here and a print there, fine. but when you rock so many prints or so many accessories you start giving people epileptic seizures, others start calling you mr. t with all the jewelry you wear. it's ridiculous. less is more. this goes to you females wearing way too much makeup, too. less is really more. cake face ain't so fly and once we wake up next to you in the morning, the last thing we need is a surprise. that would be uncalled for. k.i.s.s.

    in training
i see so many trainers and people in the gym, alike, doing all kinds of fancy shit on stability balls, bosu balls or through massive feats like moving around a ton of iron while 'hissing' and 'huffing' and 'puffing' and 'blowing (a house down)'. others sound like those old time steam engines, the way they let off steam. to anyone who exercises, stop trying to impress people and get to the damn point - train. myself as a trainer, i don't do moves to make you sexy inside of the gym, i do moves to make you look sexy outside of the gym, where it matters. stop playing and get to the point, posers.
another thing, while we're here, to anyone who reads and indulges in the beautiful world of anatomy and physiology, stop using technical words and jargon when talking to clients or 'normal' people. nobody cares if it's called the latissimus dorsi - it's the back and nobody knows what the triceps brachii is, they just care if it jiggles when they wave their hand or not. as for V02max and protocols, put it in a language that even a 6 year old can understand: "if you run hard, you'll be able to run faster...if you don't run hard, you're gonna be fat forever, sorry". simple as a dimple.
refine your craft, stick to the basics and never forget your fundamentals.

“Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.”
    - frederic chopin

i never really gave a shit about the oscars...or the grammys....or the golden globes...the people's choice. i had a brief affair with the mtv VMAs but then i started hating mainstream music or outgrew it, actually.

    d'bi young book release
i went to my first spoken word show last night. pretty hype stuff and pretty heavy topics. you'd think that i went because it's black history month and i support everything it stands for, but i didn't...for that reason at least. i do though.

i simply went to take in some dope verses and be exposed to some art. on top of that, my homegirl grace has been asking me to check out a show for two years so i finally agreed to. the show was crazy. if you ever get the chance to see slam poets, any slam poets live, check them out.

after all, i don't see your asses on stage writing anything meaningful. takes some big balls to do that.
    thanks, grace.

    odd hours
i haven't posted past 2am in what seems like years. i call anything beyond 1am the "odd hours" because that's when i'd be wired off of a late night cup of coffee back when we'd go out for...well...late night coffees. now that all seems like a thing of the past. whatever the case, a guy can be creative without being wired. a simple psychomotor stimulant should never be the crutch of someone's writing ability i feel.

getting on with the post, i just, and by "just", i mean literally seconds ago, joined the myBlog community. i saw a link to it via visiting the ricebowl journals community. it seems like a pretty cool netowrk of people so far. i kind of got lured in because as i was browsing and perusing through the profiles and various blog properties that came along with these profiles, i started to get excited about blogging again. i admit, my posts have both evolved and "de-volved" in some areas since i started blogging back in early 2000 but i guess that's just a combination of me getting into the real world grind and routine of life; it's not that there isn't anything to post about, there's just a lack of inspiration and motive.

shoot, did i just say that i lack inspiration.
a lack of inspiration in life? that's a heavy topic.

anyhow, let's hope this myBlog thing inspires me a bit more. other than the handful of friends you see in my links section to the left, i haven't felt on the same page or read too many blogs with like-minded people in years. odd hours post, ended. back to the late night surf.

who says no to all-you-can-eat sushi?
well, it's 1/2 way through the weekend and i haven't gone out. similar to last week, i have stayed in again - 1, partially because of the cold ass weather and 2, partially because i'm low budget. it's all good though because that just gave me the opportunity to see cyber (internet cult following status) streetfighter, kimbo slice duke it out with classic ultimate fighting veteran, tank abbot.

the scrap was crazy and in the end *spoiler**** tank got decked.
mad props to kimbo for coming through with the nasty.

i'm hoping the weekend, a long weekend here mind you, won't be a total loss. after all, james just invited me to his sister's wedding reception/post-party celebration at some japanese joint in brampton. i hope everyone else goes, otherwise, i guess it'll just be lunch time with the martinez' shoveling raw fish down my throat.

p.s. whatever the hell my basement tenant is cooking, smells like shit.
p.p.s. my basement tenant cooking late at night seaps into the heating ducts and fucks with my sleep patterns.
p.p.p.s. it fucks with my dog's sleep patterns too. ever try and smell something fried when you're trying to doze off???
p.p.p.p.s. my basement tenant is a good guy...i'm just being a hardass. i do need my sleep though, shit.
p.p.p.p.p.s. it's 1/2 way through black history month and i haven't said shit about it. if it affects the blacks, then it'll probably affect the rest of us in the long run. so support our black brothers and sisters in their struggle. racism is a bitch. here's my man reciting the words of malcolm.
