we all do it

i just finished rolling enough suman sa lihiya to feed all of the philippines when i got to thinking...when there's a party being thrown at your house, you take the time to scrub the sinks extra hard, dust the tables twice over and make sure all the linen and bathware is in perfect, aesthetic order and cleanliness. you press your trousers and shirts extra carefully and make sure there's no dandruff on your shoulders just the same (i hope). in terms of the air, there's not much you can really do about a filipino home's cooking smells during a party, but oh well - it comes with the territory, i guess.

for as long as i can remember, my mom has been throwing the best parties out of all my relatives, and that's not just me being biased. my mom's side has their share of cooks while my dad's side has their share of bakers. when you make the de los Reyes household, that is my household the epicentre of a special occassion, it becomes the forum for a spectacular eatapalooza.

just the other night, i was at my tita's crib and her husband, that is - my uncle, is indian. that event in itself was a divine meeting of flavours from china to the philippines to india, of course. it was madness. the same can be said during the summer when we visit my cousin's crib (her husband is italian) and we feast just the same (italians don't mess around when it comes to food and wine). i can't wait for tomorrow. although it might not be the best of circumstances to be under as a trainer, it is good for the soul. yes, i'll say it here.....it's Christmas.....GET FAT!!!!

Merry Christmas, y'all.
