m.m. (reprise): g-style buckin'
i pride myself on my hip hop intellect quotient. i don't know it all, but i sure do know a whole lot about the culture where the 90th percentile and below fail. for instance, do you know why the whole baggy jeans and oversized coat thing is such a craze in urban culture? it dates back to when cats were rockin' baggy denims and coats as a means of bypassing the bouncers at clubs. it was and still is a means of intimidation because frankly, when you see a dude with an ugly face + big ass jeans falling off his ass, you don't know if he's strapped or not. you'd be right in shitting yourself. and don't even get me started about the big parkas - do you know how many shotguns you can hide in one of those?

it's all gangsta.

which brings me to the question that i often ponder, "how gangsta would my gangsta video be"? i look in the mirror and ask myself, "jay, why aren't you gangsta enough?....why aren't you coming correct?" is it because i don't have a bandana across my face or a doo-rag skully on my head? maybe i'm not wearing the right kind of tank top; is the hanes ribbed type too effeminate?
these are all real life questions i ask myself when i look in the mirror every morning. maybe it's my moves. maybe i don't dance right. after all, gangstas don't dance, they boogie - least that's what i was told growing up.

looking back, there were some pretty gangsta moves out there - the lean back, the c-walk, some g's even popped'n'locked if they lived in south l.a.

around the same time in the midwest, gangstas were moving to a different step. they were "buckin'". but why should i break it down for you here? i'm not a certified gangsta ballroom instructor or even gangsta for that matter. take a look at how gangsta, gangsters were in the midwest 80s.

["gangsta" by g-style]

that's exactly how i would've shot a gangsta video if i could.
now i know why i wasn't coming correct; i didn't have the denim shirt nor the right step.

keep it gangsta. keep it buckin'.
