because we don't care...but honestly, we really care
we have one phone in our house. one land-line. everyone but myself has a mobile where their own set of contacts can reach them. that's mom, dad and my brother, mark.

the one and only land-line we have is in the kitchen. we used to have 2, even 3 land-lines in our home at one point, but that was a long time ago. since then, cordless phone batteries have discharged and spiral cords have worn out.

when the phone rings; in the kitchen; down the stairs, i have to get up from my chair head out of my room, hang a hard left, run down the stairs, hang another hard left, slide across my ceramic kitchen tiles in my socks or slippers and answer the phone.

i forgot to mention that we don't have call waiting but we do have voice mail. the voice mail dictates a 4 ring maximum before: (a) i answer the phone in time or (b)you get through to me before the answering service does its job.

back to answering the phone...undeniably, not all calls made to our residence on the land-line are for me. just because i'm the only one without a direct mobile line connected to my hip, does not mean all the house calls are for me. however, when i'm home (and i can only imagine how it goes down when i'm not home), i'm the only one running down the stairs like a monkey answering the ring. mom and dad lounge in front of the t.v. or read downstairs while i do my hourly movements to take any messages. sometimes, i don't even answer the phone myself because frankly, it's a lot of kilojoules for me to burn just so i can answer a call that might not even be of importance to myself. it's funny because when i actually move the phone upstairs to my room, everyone gets all jaded because they need to make outgoing calls.

it's not that we don't care...because honestly, we do care.
sometimes.

check out my quads and hammies, they don't lie.
