battered with fins
us catholics like to go 40 days abstaining and fasting for easter.
once, again i've decided to abstain from red meat. i told mom about it last week and she's taken it upon herself to declare our whole household red meat free. solidarity? health? healthy solidarity?

whatever the case, we've been eating a whole lot of fish and seafood since lent started last ash wednesday. it's not just fishy fridays - it's fishy days (period); of course there's been the odd day that we've eaten turkey or chicken or something else without hooves.

tonight's dinner was the brit classic - fish'n'chips. a blue boxed, WASP (white-anglo-saxon-protestant) favourite that used to grace our house throughout my childhood, my brother mark's childhood and his older brother, rodney's (also my older brother/kuya) childhood for decades. captain highliner would've been teary-eyed and proud. i have to say, that batch of battered, greasy fish and starch side was one of the best batches i've had in years. it's been absent too long from our low-sodium + low-fat rez.

i like mine with hot sauce and ketchup. the fries have to be vinegarized. of course....there's always the tartar sauce thing but we haven't had a jar of that since the 80s, if i'm not mistaken. unfortunately, there are no pictures of dinner because i had to eat it up fast while hot and crispy.

we still gotta chill, colin. i haven't forgotten....and considering that we never attempted/had the chance/ran out of time/insert our excuse here to check out oh my cod, maybe we'll make it cooksville fish'n'chips and shisha day. after all, i can't allow you to keep eating your "shit on a raft". that's nasty.

the funky ass fatty fish flavour still lingers on my tongue and i'm more than cool with it.

[wendel. wonderful.]
