i remember a time when music actually had soul to it; when music was an artform and people wanted to affect change. i recall times when you could throw your headphones on and hear a song that talked to you like a close friend would -- there was an element in the music that you could just identify with. that's soul music.

below, are examples of these masterpieces. as you get older, i guess you start to be more critical of the pop culture of today. you pout and groan, "oh today's music isn't music, it's garbage." stuff like that. our parents say it about our music and their parents said it about their's. i think it's been that way since the first african tribesman banged his drum to the beat of his heart. it'll be that way until kingdom come.

if today's music will one day be considered art, i don't even wanna begin to imagine what's next.
let's build for our kids.

  • "emergency on planet earth" - jamiroquai
  • "too young to die" - jamiroquai
  • "mercy, mercy me (the ecology)" - marvin gaye
  • people make the world go 'round" - lalah hathaway

    • these teenyboppers today and their garbage music...

i leaned AND rocked with it during the early to mid-90s era, when music had some sort of purpose and made sense. (to me at least.)

did i just show my age?

    • That you did.

BBD. Guy. Kane. Brand New Heavies.
      Great times.

But if you were like me, you enjoyed the great sounds coming out of the UK as well, like The Stone Roses, Jamiroquai and Pulp.

      Ha. Old foggies unite.

Blog. Skip work and blog so that when I pop in here for the third time today I have something great to read.

Do you have this album btw? It'd go great on my travel MD.

      Sincerly,
