friends, i come to you today with glorious news.
do you like small news or big news first?

i like small news that builds up into big news later on, so here we go...

SMALL NEWS
i think i mentioned it before...i've been shopping around for a camera. a new camera and the canon powershot sd600 just seems like the perfect fit. at a retailed $399.99 CAD, it's worth it from the reviews i've read on c|net to numerous friends who are canon camera owners.

$399.99 was the price but i wasn't ready to pay that much. i work in retail and i know the laws of sales - what (price) goes up, must come down.

months passed and i kept this mindset that one day...one day, maybe even a whole weekend or week, the sd600 would go on sale. it did four months ago, but i just didn't have the funds at the time.

i don't make the same mistakes twice. i was browsing online and checked out the usual retailers slanging canons. black's photography had it marked down to $379.99 (good lookin' out colin) and bestbuy.ca too. but that's a mere $20 bucks. i work hard for my money.

i then visited staples.ca where it was on promotion for $349.99.
i head to the store this morning and see the price tag attached to the sd on display. it reads "$379.99".
i sigh and pout and call the sales associate demanding some justice.

"i think this is marked down even more. do me a favour and check, sir. please".

he checks and it reads "$349.99 in effect starting nov. 1st".

"that's too bad, i was ready to buy it today. oh well...maybe i'll come back"

the deal online was just that....a deal online.
never letting the customer leave unsatisified, keith, a gracious sales associate of southasian descent talks to his manager.
they give me the deal and i walk out of the store with a new camera and a two year warranty on the thing.

say it with me now....
life is good.

BIG NEWS
for months the question has been "when are you leaving?....have you booked?.....are you sure that you're going?"

that's the reception i've been getting from a lot of people and i like that. i like the fact that almost half of everyone, friends included, didn't think this trip would materialize. as always, i like to defy....and with that said, i'm happy to announce that the tickets have been booked.

for a few weeks now, my homie colin and i have been shopping around for good deals. we were both ready to drop $1500 for tickets plus tax. we both skimmed the major airlines and their websites, mocked up the whole destination-arrival thing and came up with some prices for what we were looking for. the result -- near $1500 plus tax for most airlines as expected.

then came colin last week, "jay, i dropped by this travel agency and got a quote....$1010 plus tax".

sweetness.

during this time, i was still shopping around and inquiring. i then realized that i had a former co-worker who was now in the travel agency game, making dreams come true.
her quote, you ask?.....

....brace yourself for this one....

$860 plus taxes!
you read it right, don't adjust your screen.

that's $1220.80, tax in.

considering that you'll never find a deal to southeast asia like that one in your life twice, she could only hold it for 24 hours. that was yesterday and this is now.

we booked and colin and i will be departing on november the 9th (that's soon!).
we'll be back by a scheduled december 15th - just in time for the holidays.

God loves me...oh He loves you too...just me more.
