tomorrow, is the annual terry fox run around where i live. this year i planned to run the "marathon of hope", a 10 kilometre run, but the fact of the matter is -- i'm scared. sure, i didn't train leading up to tomorrow's run but i hate making excuses; i didn't train because deep down inside, 10 kilometres is a long ass distance. i know that.

terry fox puts me and a lot us to shame. he attempted to run across canada with one leg and he covered a whole lot of that goal before he passed away.

i want...no, i need you to imagine having cancer. it's an ugly disease without a cure but so many people fight cancer with the utmost bravery every day. the disease itself and the therapy is a grind. it's hard. i've imagined having to face cancer myself but even my wild imagination doesn't do the reality of the disease justice. what terry did more than two decades ago was very noble. he believed in fighting cancer not only for himself but for the thousands who face the debilitating disease every day. his example is what i strive to attain - selflessness and bravery.

currently, im watching a made for t.v. movie on ctv entitled, "terry". watching this and other specials has become somewhat the tradition for me over the last few years; sorta like watching "it's a wonderful life" during Christmas or "the ten commandments" around easter. the legacy of terry fox is someething i'll always recognize and experience every year until the day i die. simply mentioning terry on this blog and what he's done for so many since his legacy is the least i could do. next year, i will run the marathon of hope, no ifs ands or buts.
