i'm a man of appreciation. the last few days have been good. real good. take my television set for instance. between tuesday and wednesday of this week, i jumped from a mere 28 channels to a gargantuan almost 400. the reason?...my brother the electrical engineer. no, he didn't hack our cable and defy the system. he copped a new widescreen hdtv and seeing that our 'basic cable' plan didn't do justice to his magnificent set, he ordered hi-definition digital t.v. we went from 28 to 400 channels! the end result...his little brother, me, reaping all the benefits (actually, my parents foot half the bill, so thanks to them too).

the last time i had this much choice was went we went to visit abs in virginia. it's great. and it's a big deal to me. not that i wasn't amused enough by basic cable and CTS (the Christian television station) during the afternoon - no, not at all. it's just that having all these channels keeps me glued to my t.v. i talked about digital beef in my last entry but now my computer will be beefing with my t.v.

let's take a look what i've enjoyed over the past couple of days, shall we?

  • fight tv: k-1 classics - bob sapp vs. akebono
if you don't know bob sapp, go wiki him. you'll see a picture and say to yourself, "ohhh bob sapp, yea i know him". if you don't know aki bono, then you haven't been watching enough sumo wrestling on sunday afternoons when they used to air japan today on city tv (sorry, my americano readers, you'll have no clue what i'm talking about).
just think...fight channel....fights. 24 hours a day. it's madness. i have to plug their viewer disclaimer, have to.

    "you are watching fight tv.
have you ever been kicked in the head? it hurts.
some people like to hit. some people like to watch.
if you don't like either, don't watch.

    fight tv...it's nice like that.

  • drive-in network: the hilarious house of frightenstein
a cult classic and a childhood classic in it's own right. i remember watching this show at 6am. i'd get up, tune in and then kiss my mom goodbye before she worked her 12 hours as a nurse. those hours fed us and clothed me. it probably seemed sweet that i would get up to kiss her goodbye...i did, but i also had to tune into my man, billy van and his hilarious antics.

the show is basically a variety comedy show for kids. billy van played the part of the characters 95% of the time and he did a spookin' helluva job. shoot, even vincent price cameoed to do some poetry. very slick.
scary and funny - a beautiful marriage.
canadian made too (hamilton, ontario, where ya at? what?!!).

as for the drive-in channel...think b-movies, cult classics and rarities.
    life is gewwwwd.

  • the mabuhay channel
filipinos on a western tv set. my parents' dream come true. i tune in too for the morning show. think corny gags and melodramatic comedies. think brown skin and beaches and current events from back home. a nice twist to my life.
    we do we!
