if you only knew the number of drafts i have that don't get the final publish on here.
it's been nearly a month, but i had to get around to publishing this (i know marriane, it's been too long, right? my bad).

our annual camping trip was well deserved. after all, it's a must once in a while to just take a break, kick back and shoot the shit with your friends. although the roster of our summer excursions have changed over the past 4 years, it's been a golden experience each and every time.

here's a quick lowdown:

friday
rendezvous at rocky's house scheduled for 8am. as usual, filipinos like to run on filipino time - so 8am was really 9am. we loaded up our vehicles, made our brief introductions, counted the beers, liquor and food then bounced to mc donald's. downed our egg mc whatever's and headed southwest to dunnville near niagara. it was a rainy morning but that all cleared up during the 2-3hr drive. after a detour or two, we made it to rock point. not the greatest campsite in comparison to our past excursions - there was mud everywhere and slipping and sliding ain't fun when you're rocking flip flops and shorts. oh well.
set up shop - meaning the tents, tables, stoves and coolers then had some ice cold beers and humus + pita. memories of mud and dirt on our feet were behind us at this point. all it took was some flat bread, chickpeas and beer.

"relaxed" some more with mysterious fog encircling my friends and i then took a mid day siesta. awoke in an hour or 4 and started skewing our filipino bbq for dinner. after endless laughs and a quick shower, we started the usual campfire business. more introductions, ice breakers ("5 famous - who you'd lay of both sexes) and around the world drinking games. the rest can be left up to your imagination. oh yea...james showed up late that night; real late - but he showed up and that was good enough for all of us.

saturday
woke up, made the usual greasy camping breakfast of spam and eggs - not the best hangover meal but the most delicious one. cleaned up and hiked over to the beach. the waves that day must've been 8ft. high at some points. some of the fam played an unfriendly, highly rival game of beach volleyball while others basked in the sun to bake their filipino skins. others took in the lake erie water like they were in the desert for a year.

we hiked backed, showered and prepared lunch. i can't really remember what happened after that. possibly some mysterious fog engulfed us again at that point.

later that day, we went into town, bought some groceries to re-stock and a birthday cake for rocky. again, dinner....drinking...campfire - this time, ghost stories. we really could've used your ghost anecdote to firestart the session.

i'd like to say i got really faded again like i did last year but that's not the case and that was perfectly fine. i was 'just right'.
crashed early late night (does that make sense?).

sunday
a breakfast of chili and sausage and anything you wanted that was left over from the days prior. dehydrated and tired we attempted to pack up our tents and bounce for the weekend. however, plans changed - true, we packed up but we had no intention of bouncing; we went to the beach for an encore.

before leaving the site, we had an egg fight (yea, i said egg - most people use water, but we have bouts of down syndrome sometimes). pina colada mix made an appearance in that jihad too as a projectile.

hit the beach but the water was calm this time; stark contrast to the day before but that was fine. we just relaxed on the sand and shot the shit. that was the essence of our trip and it's been the essence for the past 4 years.
we eventually headed home but not before hitting star walk - a chinese buffet. sand on our bodies and the smell of 'sun' and sweat reaking off our skin, we enjoyed that last meal together.

camping 2006 wasn't supposed to be the greatest but it turned out to be great nonetheless.
like i've said in the past - it's who you're with, not where you are.

i've come to the conclusion that we can never end our annual camping trip. although extremely hard to coordinate and plan, we can never end it; it's a tradition.

our tradition.

for everyone who came out this year and in the past, a big mighty thanks.
summer 2006 has been the greatest of all time. let's raise the bar for next year and beyond.

peace.
