satisfaction.

when i think of table tennis, i get taken back.
"ping pong" is the word that flashes in the dark domain of my mind.
i get fond memories of playing my brother and cousins on my uncle's table in his basement. i hear the hollow plastic sound of the ball rebounding off the table. when i think table tennis i think forest gump.

table tennis is happiness.

when i watch professional table tennis, it's usually a different story. it's usally late night on the sports network with china battling it out with some scandanavian player. i hear large crowds and find myself wrestling with the idea of how table tennis became a professional sport not to mention international phenomenon. i guess i'm just in denial that it's actually a sport. which i can't understand why i'm in denial in the first place - shit is intense.

rockstar, the video game developers better known for their blood, grime and sexploitated games have created their latest treasure "rockstar presents: table tennis". now i don't know if this was a joke on their part or really an attempt to show all the pissed off parents and government policy makers that rockstar has a sensitive side, but i gotta say, rockstar delivers in their first sports title.

game play is satisfying.

here at the crib we have ea sports' "fight night round 3" a professional boxing game and simulator. that game without a doubt is one of the greatest video games of all time - sport related or not.

rockstar's ping pong...ahem, i mean table tennis is on that level. graphics are crisp and the game play is intense. you can turn different spins on the ball, forehand and backhand capabilities, not to mention groundbreaking smashes.

as for the soundtrack...the people at rockstar love their music. reminiscent of "gta: san andreas and its fitting gangster rap soundtrack, "table tennis" has the most fitting score possible. because table tennis is mostly a european and east asian phenomenon, they incorporated a lot of techno and house beats to accompany game play. you almost feel like you're lost among the crowd in the ping pong stadium. beyond that, such sounds act to really emphasize the instant replays. like i said, the game is satisfying whether you score or not.

if you have an xbox 360 or are ever near one in the future and "table tennis" is on demo, then you better walk your sweet ass over to the console and buckle up.
the game is ill.
