quiet?

yea right. i can hardly wait. over the next few months leading up to my travels, i'll try and share some facts and assumptions and downright subjective opinions about se asia that i've come across in my guidebook and internet forums and pages.

in thailand there are two main beers - world famous singha beer and lesser known chang beer. singha is one that a lot of you have heard of as it's readily available internationally in brew and liquor stores near you. i've never tried singha but i will try it at some point in life, im sure. i won't say anything about singha because i haven't read anything about it.

the other beer is chang beer. this is the one that i've been hearing a lot about. it's supposedly the "thai working man's beer". my attention is engaged already. "chang" means elephant in thai - what that has to do with the beer, i'll never know.

chalk full of goodness
from what i've read, chang brand beer is deadly; it'll really "kick your ass". often causing blackouts when over-consumed, chang beer has nutritious and healthy ingredients including amphetamines (speed) and formaldahyde (used to embalm dead bodies and also found in cigarettes...mmm, i feel my health improving already). so if you want kick, chang over singha.

when in rome...
when drinking chang brand, drink it like thais do - in a glass with ice.
because it's hot in thailand, you gotta drink your beer quick before the ice melts. the ice, by the way is used to cut the harshness of the beer's taste and strength to an extent. if you don't wanna add ice, be my guest and drink piss-warm beer.

they're like snowflakes
speaking of strength, no bottle of chang beer is identicle. one can be as harmful as a bottle of water while a whif from another bottle from the same case will knock you down. i guess there's no such thing as quality control nowadays.

save it for a rainy day; since it's sunny, have a chang
although not readily available in the northern regions of thailand, chang beer comes in pretty good deals if you find yourself visiting the south. i'm talking 3 chang brews for 100 baht ($3 CAD).
chang beer, i'll rendezvous with you on the beach under my umbrella.

i'll do the real, full person review when i get back.
for now, i'll buy you a chang beer or a dozen when we get there, colin.
cheers.
