when i wake up i like waking up to the smell of food. now that i think of it, maybe it's the food in the air that actually wakes me up. westerners like waking up to bacon. i like spam - crispy on the outside; soft 'n' juicy on the inside.

i usually find that the taste and smell of a good breakfast pretty much sets the mood of the day - whether it be my day or other members of this family's day.

today, i woke up to the smell of boiling peanuts. mom likes to buy them by the netted bag - raw at the local chinese grocer. she's heading up to collingwood for a sunday drive with my tito tony and tita benny. collingwood -- that's cottage country up north if you didn't know. the smell of peanuts in my house represents a glorious and leisure day for her.

other days it's fried rice. those are usually lazy and lethargic days. maybe it's the "itis" from eating such a dense morning meal but i gotta say, when fried rice is in the air - i know all assignments, duties and actions will not be rushed. fried rice is soul food.

then we have the smell of coffee brewing. you all know this one - a cup of coffee sometimes accompanied by a bagel or toast with some peanut butter. that's a fast paced, on-the-go type of day. there are many more smells to touch on but i'll leave that to your own subjective lifestyles and personal imagination.

just know that when there's no smell in the air here, i've woken up late and will probably have to opt for a cereal bar or apple during the drive or ride to wherever.
