i've been considering buying a bass guitar for a minute. and now that i have all this money going into my pocket vs. york university's pocket, i think it's near time i buy an instrument. considering that my mom wants to get a piano, organ or keyboard, i think i can learn that in addition to bass guitar.

i've been wanting a bass for a minute. a couple years, actually.

but why a bass?

it's funky first of all. i love funky. i am funky. shoot, i smell funky sometimes. the bass guitar would be ultimately fitting for me.

but in all honesty, the bass guitar has a sound that i've appreciated for years, maybe decades. if you download, "flashlight" by parliament you'll hear why i love the bass guitar. the same can be said for "take your time do it right" by the SOS band.

listen and study those basslines; the players are virtuous. i like the fact that the bass guitar doesn't have to play along with the band, really. the bass guitarist leads. the bass guitar has a lot to do with improvisation - very similar to the way of jazz artists play. when you listen to a song, you bob your head to the kick or snare of a drum but your move your body to the bass guitar. don't believe me? study your music. be aware of yourself.

after all the essential crap has been bought for my november backpacking trip, i think i'll cop me a bass guitar. it's time, kids.
