that's my school's motto and it was pretty much glorified for me at yesterday's convocation.

leading up to june 14th, i didn't really care all too much about crossing that stage and shaking the dean's hand.

i was in the kinesiology and health science office awaiting a scheduled appointment with my academic advisor. that day, i was seeking piece of mind to ensure that from january on, and upon completion of the winter term, i'd have everything the school wanted from me. when i left the office one of my old professors, dr. malszecki, caught me on my way out. he said congratulations on completing my degree and advised me to, "take [my] time when i cross that stage...[i've] spent the last few years working towards graduation day, not to mention thousands of dollars" (my own dollars, mind you).

...yesterday
june 14th arrived and up until the robing and marshalling in vari hall, immersed among the rest of the graduating class of 2006, i wasn't feeling "it"; that changed instantly. that feeling became exponential when we walked into the stage area and past the crowd. it grew even more when we were seated and facing our familes and friends in the seating areas.

jack layton, politicial leader of the NDP and york alumnus was on stage to take part in congratulating the graduates but that didn't phase me. i was moved by the speeches of the world renowned scientists recieving awards and recognition for their life's work and dedication; i was moved by the faculty and the dean's address. you'd think i would've hated the whole ordeal and sitting there for almost three hours, but i didn't.

finally, it was my turn to cross the stage and i remembered what dr. malszecki told me 6 months ago. they even pronounced my last name right. after shaking the dean's hand and gaining approval from the community, i was on another level. towards my exit off stage, my former professors were there to shake my hand and give me their blessings and well-wishing. these are the people who chiseled my knowledge over the past 5 years and they will always continue to inspire me whenever i reminisce about york university. finally, at the end of the kinesiology faculty line up - on stage was good ol' dr. malszecki. he not only shook my hand like the rest of my profs - he gave me a hug and some simple parting words that'll always be etched in my mind, "jason, you've done well and you're going to do good in this world".

i didn't want to make a big deal about graduating but graduating made a big deal out of me.
i had to move with it.

to everyone who had my back since day one; giving me love and support - putting up with my obsessive worknights, days, weeks and years during my climb, this victory us ours not mine.

HOLD ME DOWN!!!
