she'll get pissed and fart a tsunami on you.

i grew up during the genesis of recycling. i remember when they introduced the whole notion of the 3 R's (reduce, reuse, recycle) in senior kindergarten. since then there have been many permutations of the idea. recently there was not only a blue box but a greybox too. the bluebox was for anything not paper and the greybox was for anything paper. eventually they introduced the green box and/or yard waste idea where you put all your grass clippings and old leaves in a big ass bag for the city to pick up. related to that, they suggested we compost.

in the beginning it was pretty easy to recycle -- especially as a child who was taught the finer points of the practice. for my parents, it was a no-brainer; just let jay organize the blue box. simple as a dimple. that was all fine and dandy until people started stealing our bluebox.

why would you steal a bluebox? beats me.

anyhow, after several bouts of frustration and becoming 'wise-to-the game', we started spray painting our address on the box and taking it in immediately after the truck swung by. pretty sad, but it's true. for a while there, we did nothing but the rubbish thing; i'm talking a good 2 years or so. sorry earth.

2 months ago, here in mississauga, they restructured the whole bit. recycling is now easier than ever. forget what to put in a blue box or what to put in the grey box. you just toss anything recycleable in either box! the choice is yours. now after i crack open that can of sardines, i just pull a dr. j and skyhook the can in the trajectory of the greybox. if don't get it in, that's cool because the blue box is right next to it. it wouldn't matter. supposedly, mississauga and the surrounding gta (greater toronto area) have improved their waste management facilities with new sorting filters. they can say they use state of the art "filters" to make us feel good, but i'm kind of skeptical -- im pretty sure they have people there who sort the stuff; humans, not robots. whatever the case, this is a wise move towards reducing the crap at landfills, especially since detroit stopped allowing us to ship our garbage to their dumps. nice move, mississauga.

why didn't they do this since the beginning?
