just as the seasons change, i tend to lend my ears to a different sound. during cold canadian winters, i can't help but associate my environment with the grimey sound of the concrete jungle. what i'm talking about here is new york or east coast hip hop. close seconds can be easily dealt to the whole philly, detroit and chicago scenes. the lyricists from these areas say something that conjure up an experience that i go through myself. naw, i don't drink 40oz. bottles of malt liquor and smoke blunts on the corner rocking my timbos, but i do relate to the cold, dark and raw sound these artists present.

"you either bundle up or burn rubber, but if you can' t take the winter then you don't deserve summer."
- platinum pied pipers (detroit, what!)

oppositely, when summer comes along, i can't help but be enthused by the laid back feel of the west coast and dirty south. california, texas and hotlanta. these are the artists i like to hear. from the bay area to georgia, the sound of hip hop from these landscapes paints of picture of bbqs in the park, lowriders and tall refreshing glasses of your favourite cold one.

i haven't posted a playlist on here in a minute so here we go. short, sweet and to the point.
nothing but o.b.g's.

cali mix
"what's that cha say" - anotha level
"acid raindrops" - people under the stairs
"the L.A. song" - people under the stairs
"never no more" - souls of mischief
"mind playing tricks (instrumental)" - geto boys
"you know how we do it" - ice cube
"son of a neckbone" - beastie boys
"passing me by" - the pharcyde
"93 'till infinity" - souls of mischief

  • wow it sure took a long time for your comments page to load. anyways I nearly forgot what I was going to say...

You need an ipod before you can make podcasts! Im just kidding, you need itunes but you already knew that. So you're the type of guy who likes to set the mood or tune eh? I can tell by the way you figured out what goes well in the summer and different environments. Very interesting.. too bad you didnt have some way of demonstrating it, b/c its harder to visualize without anything but text.

You really do need a podcast.
