so it's been a month since my parents have left and my brother and i have lasted; we're still alive and bonded stronger than ever. you'd think we'd kill eachother by now, but i guess we've grown far beyond those years.

this past month has been my first real taste of independence. yea, i'm old but hey, i'm young -- i don't plan on getting my own crib just yet (although very tempting). wouldn't want my parents going through that whole empty nest syndrome just yet now would i?

here's the skinny -- you take two guys; brothers. one is an electrical engineer in the sales division of a corporation and the other is a kinesiology graduate looking for a career and currently working both a retail and traffic surveying gig.
brother one leaves at 7am and comes home at about 6pm. the other brother (i.e. brother to brother one) leaves for work at 1pm and gets home at about 10pm.

there's a house. single detached with three bedrooms 4 bathrooms plus a finished basement. mortgage paid. prime location in the burbs of toronto ontario, canada. a front and back yard and of course...the bills.

with our combined incomes, my brother mark and i have easily paid the monthly bills required to maintain this home. further, over the past four weeks we've even had extra funds to go out, socialize with our friends on weekly bases and even buy cartons of ice cream during every trip to the grocery store. there have been laundry sessions, cleaning sessions, cooking sessions, renovation, gardening and landscaping sessions. there have been gym sessions for the body just as there were reading and exam sessions for the mind. all of these things -- whether you consider them stressors or not, have been offset usually through our video game sessions where we escape our 'independent and responsible' realities.

all in all, my brother and i have done a pretty good job at living on our own for a minute or 43,200 (that's the equivalent of minutes in a month if you do the math).

of course, all this realization does not excuse the fact that i've missed my mom and dad; their rules, their fighting and their love. come tuesday, it's gonna be mighty swell to have them back home.
