before my parents took off to the mother islands on the other side of the world, they did a little grocery for the house. usually at this time of the year, we stock up on fresh mangoes. mom hits up the asian market and buys them by the box - roughly a dozen. i don't know if they accounted for their absence ahead of time or not, but that box of mangoes wasn't touched (by anyone).

fast forward to this week, i have errr had a dozen mangoes in the fruit bowl of my kitchen's table. oh yea, one slight detail i forgot to leave out...my brother went to montreal for the week so im home alone with the dog and the silence. in other words, i've been placed in charge of the grand task of consuming a dozen ripe mangoes in the span of 2 days. there's more fresh fruit leftover from last week's grocery and i'll probably blog about those when i've found something to do with them (anyone have any pointer on how to carve a pineapple?). back to the mangoes, for the past two or three days, i was eating one or two a day; either with my breakfast or after dinner.

but in all honesty, a man can only eat so much raw mango!

and it's not like i can just throw a mango party or fruit orgy or anything like that.

this morning i carved up the remaining 8 mangoes; diced them and stored them in a plastic freezer container. they shall be used for future morning smoothies. it was a sticky and juicy job but it had to be done - mom told me to never waste food. back when i was little she always emphasized "the kids starving in africa". some 20+ years later, there are still kids starving in africa. however, i still don't know if the cleaning of my plate had an overall effect on that.

anyhow, here's to frozen diced mangoes and the upcoming daily smoothies i'll have oozing down my guts.
oh yes - perfect.

[footnote]
you can also repeat this story for yourself during the week replacing "mangoes" with:
- big ass bag of fresh chow mein noodles
- hot dog and burger buns
- pineapples, apples, oranges, raspberries, snow peas and various other fresh produce
- etc. etc. etc.

i shouldn't complain; least i have eats, right?
