these two videos are phenomenal. ever wonder how things are made?

i remember watching these two minute segments on channel 2 (local public broacasting) where they would show the evolution of an item (whether it be a bottle of ketchup or a scuba diver's goggles) from raw material to final product. the whole experience was very educational; pointless, but educational...and of course, interesting. on today's masterpiece segment, i wanted to bring it back; i want you to think how things are made. first, i'll show you how pete rock makes a beat on an MPC. next, i won't show you how the pharcyde video "drop" was made, rather, i'll leave it up to you to think about it. by the way, "drop" is a video released before coldplay's video (a song that i forget), so before you start commenting and telling me that coldplay did that first, you'd be best advised to keep your pie hole shut. 'preciate it.

how pete gets down
a lot of today's rap music is just looping with wack ass sounds. pete rock is a hip hop innovator. he fuses subtle and intricate samples of old jazz and blues, sometimes rock, to get his final product. mind you, a lot of his finished pieces contain really rare jazz - only a crate digger would understand. hopefully, after watching this clip, you'll have a greater understanding of the whole process. and who knows, maybe you'll even appreicate it.

"drop" - the pharcyde
"drop" was produced by the late j-dilla; the video was directed by the obscure, yet genius spike jonze. watch the video fully, then answer, "how hard do you think it was to make this video"? it's fresh.

  • HEY i like watching that show too... except when they talk about boring things like springs on a mattress or steel. Yuck.... they should pick better topics like....... how to make flourescent lights or neon lights.. i think they might have done that already.
