somehow, the advanced copy version of j-dilla's 'donuts' happened to fall into my lap. like i said....somehow [thanks, colin].

anyhow, the version i got was one long ass continuous mix which is okay...but i'd like to have the option of scanning through tracks every now and then. if i wanted a continuous fury of sound, i'd go buy tickets to an opera or rave. but if that's the format that was available for pirating, then so be it - as long as i have a copy of this, im cool. extra cool.

so wanting to break the 1 track down into it's individual album tracks, i looked...and looked..and looked all over the internet. from the deep depths of forums spanning back to 1999 to would-be pop/spyware/virus-infected sites if i were on my pc,i searched like a mad man. foolishly, i thought itunes would have an option to do so; sadly, they don't. i then turned to my pc and tried my adaptec easy cd creator. there is, in fact, an option where you can merge or split tracks. unfortunately, after trying and getting frustrated - looking and being unable to find an answer, i turned off my pc (which is how life should stay). i then continued on my ibook...i didn't want to manually cut the track and use track markers, but i did. i found this unbelieveable pgm (shareware/trial use thing) called sound studio 3. if you come across the same problem i had, then i suggest you get it. it's probably the most straight forward program for basic music editing you can find.

that program made me listen to the whole album not only as a listener, but as a fucking technician or producer with producer like ears. there's an oscilloscope that illustrates soundwaves and other good stuff too - which makes it really geeked out but almost cool..sort of.

anyhow, an hr or two and 31 tracks later, here i am closing shop for the night.

crap, that took a long time.

jay dilla's donuts are delicious!!! if you need another hip hop instrumental to listen to on your ipod, your computer, your cd player, md or mp3, then i suggest you grab donuts...LEGITIMATELY and LEGALLY of course.
