colin and i both got inked during our jaunt through thailand.
originally, we wanted hand-tapped bamboo tattoos like the polynesians do it, but the artist was away on holiday. the bastard.

we walked and walked through the hot thai sun and finally came across utopai tattoo. kui was our artist and he did us well.

colin will surely post his but here's mine.
a japanese koi.

but why? you might ask...why a "fish", jay?...

"It is said to climb waterfalls bravely, and, if caught, it lies upon the cutting board awaiting the knife without a quiver, not unlike a samurai (warrior) facing a sword. This theme dates back to ancient China, where a legend tells of how any koi that succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate (on the Yellow River) would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement".






also, the koi, swims against the current of flowing water (salmon do too, but they're not as appealing, sorry). it's no wonder that it easily symbolizes overcoming adversity and struggle.
finally...it's in traditional japanese style. it's fucking dope. is there a better reason?
