the perfect day has me waking up at about 5am. the sun is already starting to blaze through my window's blinds. i start reviewing the review that i've reviewed over the past 3 days. i walk my dog, come back home and shower. at this point, it's about 8 or 9 am. i eat a light breakfast -- probably some oatmeal and a fresh piece of fruit. oh yea, i have a tall glass of o.j. - i love it when there's a full carton of o.j. in the fridge! i review a little bit more for an hour, then leave my house at around 11am to catch the next Go bus up to school. my exam is at 2:30, so there's more than enough time left. i pop in my favourite minidisc consisting of madlib, nicolay and of course dilla. during the bus ride, i zone out and nothing seems to disturb my sleep for the duration of the ride. luckily, when we arrive to the university's doorstep, a passenger distracts the driver from driving away; otherwise, my ass would've missed not only my stop but my scheduled final exam.

i head to one of the college's dining halls to study; it's a sunday so there's nobody there. it's about 1:30pm and 30 minutes before i give up on the books. i head to the lecture hall early and settle in. there's not much more studying possible. like most pre-exam situations, there's always that group who reviews aloud acting like they know everything. i block them out and pull out my student i.d., pen and bottled water. the exam begins and i write what's a scheduled 3 hour exam in a mere half the time. it's mad easy.

i leave the hall, say goodbye to my peers and call up my homeboy wilf from school. he comes up, we decide to head downtown and just shoot the shit. it's 4pm. we head to the beer store, drop off some empty bottles and roll towards mel's. we grab some montreal smoked meat sandwiches with a side of coleslaw and a pickle. we parlez about whatever current events are going on and what exactly we should do to celebrate the end of school. we decide to break the "two-man rule" about watching a movie and plan to hit the 9:50pm show for spike lee's 'the inside man'. at this point, we have 2 or 3 hours to kill. we head to an irish pub near the university of toronto - the duke of york. our waitress is nice in her scottish kilt. it brings me back to highschool the way her knee high socks and long legs seem never ending. the food is supreme and wilf introduces and enables me to discover an instant favourite - hoegaarden beer. we watch the master's on a large flat panel while ordering our freshly kettle-cooked chips with a side of ranch. it's almost time so we head to the varsity cinemas on bloor st. it's sort of early so we hit the nearby 24hr rabba so i can get some ice cream.

it's about 9pm and we head back to buy our tickets. to our surprise, there's a 9:15 but only for v.i.p. ticketholders. shoot, i never knew there was a v.i.p. arrangement for movies. bigger seats, smaller theatre; all that good stuff. we opt for the v.i.p. passes that cost 3 dollars more. besides, i have to take the subway home and i wanted to make sure that i hopped on a subway out of toronto before 1am.

the theatre is small; the type that trump or hefner probably has in their crib. there are leather seats and side tables. a hostess even came in before the show and asked if we wanted any drinks or eats. we were livin' large, as wilf put it. he takes full advantage - ordering the junior mints and large sprite. as with most spike lee joints, the movie gets 2 thumbs up. we leave home but not before considering to get a shot of tequila in the upstairs lounge. i decline - it's about 11:30 and time to hop on a train. i take the bathurst train westbound and get home around 12:30pm. what a dope day.

1 more final to go...
